Description

Prime Minister Markus Söder has adopted the new, six-billion-euro digital package for Bavaria on June 26. Much of this was already planned as part of the Bavaria Digital II, including the future initiatives Artificial Intelligence, Assistive Robotics, and 3D Printing. Now, however, the AI plans are being honed more precisely.

The Council has decided to set up an artificial intelligence competence network to improve and enhance knowledge transfer from research to practice. The ambitious goal was formulated by Söder as follows , “Bavaria should become one of the leading regions worldwide for artificial machine intelligence.”

The main research locations are Munich , the BRAIN (Bavarian Research in Artificial Intelligence Network) project is being built around the state capital, and Würzburg where the state government intends to create six new professorships.

But Augsburg, Bayreuth, Erlangen, Ingolstadt, and Weiden are also involved, as well as the state research institute fortiss . Several Fraunhofer institutes are also involved and a new one is to be added in Munich, the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems .
